I'm Billy Ivey, Director of Story.

I live in Birmingham, Alabama with my beautiful wife of 24 years, Bethany, who has given me five better than average kids.

For the past 30 years, I have enjoyed a career in advertising — working for different agencies and brands throughout the country as a copywriter.

My entire career has been a fevered pitch to convince people to buy things, sell things, order things, believe in things, join things, and trust that this thing is better than that thing; the other thing is the best thing; and where you get your oil changed, for example, says a lot about you as a person.

Advertising is wonderful. But all I’ve ever really wanted to do is tell stories.

True stories. Hopeful stories. Real-life, punch-you-in-the-gut, and hug-your-neck stories.

Stories that surprise and delight; inform and inspire; educate and entertain.

In early 2023 was given the opportunity to do that full time - to begin telling my stories and helping others share their own.

Small Stories Studio is doing just that — not just through me, but countless others who share our vision to share hope through stories.

When I am not writing, I enjoy directing and producing film projects, collaborating on brand development, and speaking regularly to businesses, churches, students, and trade organizations about influence, storytelling, and more.

I love helping others find small ways to make a big difference in the lives of others. 

This is a place for storytellers, and believe it or not… that’s you! You don’t have to be a writer, designer, photographer or filmmaker to inspire and to be inspired by the small stories you are living, sharing, and consuming each and every day.

The details of our lives may all be different, but that's why weaving them all together is such a beautiful thing.
